  Bridlington's historic books

The Thing (see elsewhere on this site) has prompted me to finish work that was meant to be done at some point in the future. That point is now.

So, I've retypeset and republished J. Thompson's first history book about Bridlington, Historical Sketches of Bridlington. It was first published in 1831 and I hope that others interested in old Brid will enjoy reading it as much as I did when I first came across the book.

Then I retypeset and republished the famous work by Marmaduke Prickett, M.A., History of the Priory Church of Bridlington. This is 130 pages.

 Both out of print

And while we're on about books, there's My Bridlington. There's 130 A5 pages absolutely crammed with stuff about Bridlington (includes 370 photographs). There's boats and cars and trains and planes, people from the 20s, 30s and 40s, some modern bits and pieces, but there's something to interest everyone.

Sorry, but it's now out of print

Little Tyke tells stories in poetry in the voice of a little lad who grew up in Bridlington in the 40s and 50s. Some of the tales are personal, others are make believe, but all reflect the thoughts and concerns of a youngster in those days.

It's been well received by a couple of well-known poetry judges and the stories always go down well when they are read out to groups.

There are 82 pages with around 75 different stories, some short, some long, some amusing, some sad. There's a handful of photographs which feature me and/or my family at that time.

Sorry, this is out of print

Life as an Inshore Fisherman at Bridlington was published in accordance with the wishes of Frank Brown's family back in 1960. It was launched in November 2008 on the anniversary of the Victoria Five incident, when Frank's father Kit won a silver medal for bravery in a storm. The 40-page A5 book relates Frank's memoirs, taking us through the Bridlington of many years ago. It costs £3.50 and a percentage of sales income is donated to the Bridlington St John Ambulance.

Sorry, this is out of print.

More Bridlington, 130 pages A5 with hundreds of photographs of old Bridlington. A completely different selection of illustrations and articles. How to purchase: Send cheque for £7.00 (free postage and packing) to Mike Wilson, 40 Burstall Hill, Bridlington YO16 7GA (cheques payable to Free Spirit Writers).

Colours of Bridlington is another book about the town, this time with many pages in colour. I have asked local artists to allow me to use their images, so that readers can see other people's impressions of Bridlington.

Just send £8.95 (no postage fee) along with your name and address to Mike Wilson, 40 Burstall Hill, Bridlington YO16 7GA.
