Bridlington History Bridlington Lifeboats. Here you can find photographs of current and early lifeboats as used by the RNLI in Bridlington Waterloo Pierrots. The Pierrots entertained visitors to Bridlington for many years up to the Great War. One of the troupes was called the Waterloo Pierrots. There are photographs of the members and some information St John of Bridlington. A short piece about the man who became St John of Bridlington HMS Bridlington. This boat was built in Scotland in 1940, served as a minesweeper until 1946. She then became a Royal Air Force vessel. She was scrapped in 1958 HMS Flamborough Head. This boat was built in North Vancouver in 1944. She was preserved and her stern and engine wait to become part of a new national museum. Her hull, as HMCS Cape Breton, is now an artificial reef off Snake Island, near Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. The Great Gale. The Great Gale was a major event in Bridlington's history. Six local lifeboatmen died while attempting a rescue. Christopher (Kit) Brown. Kit Brown was a humble fisherman in Bridlington involved in three major events in Bridlington's lifeboat history John Taylor Allerston. A photographer turned painter, J. T. Allerston is remembered for having painted the scenes of The Great Gale Steam in Bridlington. Photographs showing steam locomotives in Bridlington during the Fifties Come Hell or High Water. Bridlington's Town Play of 1995 brought together many local people to stage a drama about the lifeboat service in Victorian times Two Hundred Years of Lifeboats.
